MAGDA SKAWINSKA & MICHAŁ WOJCIK

Magda’s tango roots date back to 2005 and Michał dances only a year less. They met on the tango dancefloor in 2009. In 2010 they began teaching together at Beata Maia Gellert’s school. At the same time they continued to improve their dancing skills at numerous workshops run by Argentinian dancers. A few years of life and dance together have been a constant search for means of expression and ways of achieving comfort and perfection of movement. This time was full of obstacles, conflicts but also moments of great satisfaction. An important step of their journey was a stay in Buenos Aires, which motivated them to continue their work and brought a new look at their mutual dance. Since last year they have been operating under their own name „El Abrazo” (www.elabrazo.pl).

Embrace, couple’s contact and comfort is hugely important for them. From the first lesson they try to shape in their students body awareness and movement mechanics, giving them not only steps and sequences, but most of all tools to consciously build their own dance. At the same time they pay great attention to movement’s quality, its comfort and aesthetics. In their opinion more important in tango is how we dance, than what we dance and this main thought is visible behind their teaching process. Therefore, during the lessons they strongly emphasize the quality of performing individual elements, explaining details and technical complexities of discussed subjects, showing how each element can be performed to the music and how to turn it into pleasure of dance for both partners.
